FAQ

Most frequently asked questions and answers

Is there an age limit?

The minimum age is 16 years and there is no maximum age. People over the age of 90 have been Tandem Skydiving! Anyone under 18 years old must have their legal guardian sign the indemnity form before jumping.

Are there weight restrictions?

95kg is the standard weight limit. We can still take you skydiving if you’re over 95kg but under 115kg. For participants over 95kg there is a $50 surcharge and the jump is more subjective to weather conditions. We would recommend booking as early as possible to give you the best chance.

How far in advance should I book?

Bookings can be made from 6 months in advance up until 5.30pm the previous day. Last minute bookings can be made on the day subject to availability. We would definitely recommend booking at least a week or 2 in advance if you want to jump on a certain day especially in our peak season (summer)

What happens if the weather is bad?

Skydiving is a weather dependant activity and may be cancelled if the weather is unsuitable (windy or raining). We have a designated safety officer who will be monitoring the weather on the day and we will only jump if it is completely safe to do so. If we are unable to jump on the day you have booked we will contact you and re schedule your booking for a day that suits you best. If you are unable to re schedule we are happy to give you a full refund. (gift vouchers aren’t refundable)

What should I wear on the day?

We recommend wearing casual comfortable clothing. As the weather is quite warm in Australia we do not provide jump suits so just dress to suit the temperature on the day. You will also have to make sure you a wearing fully enclosed lace up foot wear e.g running shoes.

Can my friends and family watch and where do they go?

Yes. You are welcome to bring spectators with you. We recommend for them to meet at our office (18 Coyne st) at the time of your booking. They can watch you gear up and complete your safety inductions. Our staff will then direct them to the landing area just a 3 minute walk ready to watch the landing.

Where will I land?

You will land on the soft sand of Kirra beach just 3 mintues walk from our office. The landing area is in line with the Kirra Wyndham resort.

Is Skydiving safe?

Skydiving is a highly regulated sport. Over 70,000 tandem skydive jumps are conducted each year in Australia. We take safety very seriously and follow the very strict guidelines for skydiving implemented by the Australian Parachute Federation APF and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority CASA. Our instructors are highly qualified and can complete over 10 Tandem skydives in just one day! some having completed as many as 15,000 skydives through their career so you know you are in safe hands.

How long does the experience take?

If everything goes to plan your skydive experience will take around 2 hours from start to finish. As there are many factors out of our control such as air traffic delays or weather holds the experience can sometimes take longer than this. We will do our best to keep you updated on the day if we run into any unexpected delays.  While you are down in the best part of the Gold Coast check out some other things to do in the area

Im a bit nervous is that normal?

Yes nerves are completely normal and are all part of the experience. After all it’s not every day you jump out of a perfectly good aeroplane (unless your one of us) but conquering your nerves and pushing past your fear barrier is what makes the experience so incredible and sometimes life changing.

From what height will I jump?

Like all drop zones across Australia, our jump height is completely governed by Air Traffic Control (ATC) on the day.

If you’re shopping around for the highest jump in Australia, beware of the fine print stating “up to” a certain height. At Gold Coast Skydive, we guarantee a minimum height of 10,000 feet and will take you as high as ATC clearance will allow, aiming for a drop height of 12,000 feet.

Can I wear my glasses or contact lenses while jumping?

In Short, Yes you can. If you are not going to be able to see properly without your glasses you can wear them while you jump as we will give you some clear goggles with elastic to go over the top of them. *Please note there is a small chance that you could loose your glasses so if you can see ok without them or have an older pair to take we would recommend this.

Can I bring my own GoPro?

Unfortunately due to insurance and safety reasons you will not be able to bring a camera with you on your skydive. As a camera is a distraction from what you need to be focusing on the APF mandates that you must have completed over 100 skydives and hold a “C” license before you can take a camera with you. Don’t worry our instructors are incredibly skilled at getting the perfect shot of your experience and can capture the whole thing for you.

Do you provide a pick up / drop off serivce?

You will need to arrange your own transportation to and from our office on the day. Fortunately, this is straightforward, and we have some tips for you HERE.

Once you arrive at our office, we will handle transportation to the airport and pick you up after you land on the beach.

Can I still skydive with a disability?

In most cases yes! We strive to make our skydiving accessible to all individuals and have taken people with many different impairments.
Our office is accessible by wheelchair and has a wheelchair accessible toilet.

*We do regret to inform you that due to accessibility limitations at the airport and landing area, we are currently unable to take individuals who use wheelchairs. If you are in a wheelchair and wanting to skydive we encourage you to seek out other companies that may be able to accommodate your needs.

How can I learn to skydive solo?

If you are interested in learning to skydive solo, you will have to complete an AFF (Accelerated Freefall) course. Unfortunately, we do not currently offer them here on the Gold Coast. For more information on learning to skydive or finding your nearest location, please visit https://www.apf.com.au/learn-to-skydive
